Kodagu keeps its own Dasara at Madikeri, going back more than a century and a half to the Haleri kings. Four karagas open it — a decorated vessel of rice, nine grains and holy water carried on a shaved head — and ten mantapas, each showing a demon being killed, are taken through the town to close it.
